New Music Add: Arctic Monkeys –Do I Wanna Know?

There is some pretty graphic doodling being done in this music video so I have posted two versions, viewer beware.

REALLY excited that one of my current favourite songs, from my current favourite album, from my current favourite band has been added to the Mountain FM playlist.  With a mesmerizingly addictive guitar line and lyrics that will loiter in your mind for days, this is a song I hope I get a lot of requests for. I’ll admit it has not left my iTunes ‘recently played’ list for months and I think it can also be found in the top 10 of my most played songs ever.

I hope you like it, I know I shrieked when I saw it on my music logs and gushed like a schoolgirl when I announced it on-air. I’ll even admit that I cranked the speakers in the studio and sang at the top my lungs, this only happens for the cream of the classic and best new rock we play (it tends to happen at least once a day).

This Just Made My Day... Thanks Jimmy Kimmel

Some days (like today) you just need something to pick you up. A little midday laugh while you sit at your desk watching the minutes turn into hours of doing the same mundane task.

That’s not what my day is normally like, but today I have felt a little robotic doing the things I normally love. It in large part as to do with eating an ice-cream sandwich with a side of penny candy yesterday for lunch (at 5:30pm) and yes, I am still uppity about that (I am a walking, talking example of why proper nutrition is key to being mentally stable).

Anyways, Jimmy Kimmel is not even close to being my favourite comedian (usually I find my daily conversations with my mother more entertaining than him) and I am still angry that his long-ass interview with Kanye last night bumped my favourite band right now, The Arctic Monkeys, from the live run of his show. But, this sketch of musicians reading hate tweets directed at them from average people made my day, tears were shed over this sketch at my desk; thank you Mr.Kimmel.

Lil Wayne has to be my favourite read, although John Legend, Darius Rucker, Zac Brown Band and the Back Street Boys are also at the top of my list. I would love to see the outtakes from this sketch, most of these musicians really delivered!

This week, unfortunately I am not raving about a Canadian video. Arcade Fire is still blowing my mind from last week’s post. This week we are meshing some pretty gritty Brit-rock from the Arctic Monkeys and a song that will make anyone with a heartbeat dance.

1.    1. ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’ –Arctic Monkeys

Have you ever gone out for the night hoping to see one person only to find out they are staying in and not willing to give you the attention you think you deserve? Yup, that is what this song and video are about. Lead singer and lyricist Alex Turner’s voice is stunning, full of longing and messy desire. This video is not a new release (I think it came out in August), but the song is catching on right now with the release of ‘AM’ the Arctic Monkey’s latest album. The beginning of the video features the perfect musical preface the Arctic Monkey’s ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ and melts… it is the perfect 12am song turning into the 3am result song.

Seriously, buy this album. Watch these videos. Get into the Arctic Monkeys if you aren’t already.

2    2. ‘Lose Yourself to Dance’ – Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams

Just dance. Do it. The video is cool, I loved that they teased it at the MTV VMA’s but is not really necessary. You can sit around watching a bunch of people or groove or you can just let your body respond naturally and dance.
