The Man Behind the Songs: Max Martin

Update: Max has done it again! One of the (if not THE) top songs for Summer 2014 is a Max Martin track that flips the normal song formula on its head. Yes, you have probably heard it by now it is Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea's "Problem" a song that starts strong and simmers down for the chorus. This song will be sizzling everywhere you go this summer and you can thank Max Martin for it!

This video blew my mind; I was a little skeptical at first about number of hits ‘Max Martin’ had produced so I had to check it out. It turns out this man really is a hit machine. 42-year old Swede Max Martin (his birth name is Karl Martin Sandberg) has had a hand in so many HUGE pop songs. From Katy Perry to Britney Spears he has written/co-written 16 Billboard #1 hits since 1999. Martin has even won six ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Song Writer of the year awards!

For more on the man behind the songs here is his wiki page for your perusal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Martin

Props to BoyInABand for the video!

#TUNETUESDAY: NOVEMBER 12, 2013

Only one video this week, a fresh one released just hours ago from one of my favourite artists, Lily Allen.

Beware; this video contains explicit lyrics.

Okay, so I have always had an obsession with Lily Allen. The first time I heard ‘Smile’ my mother scowled and I raced home to listen to it again on our dial up internet, as slow as the speed of smell. I feel like I have grown up with Lily, she isn’t much older than I am and her latest track ‘Hard Out Here’ fits my mindset perfectly right now.

With all the Miley crap being spewed this fall it is nice to hear a song that directly opposes the over-sexualization of women in the music/entertainment industry. The video is racy, the perfect way for Lily to stage a huge comeback after spending some time building a family. I love the sarcasm, the wit and the smirk behind the lyrics in this song.

I understand this is a pop song, not a rock anthem like I usually try to find. I do believe this video is in the spirit of rock-and -roll though and will be the biggest video of the week. Regardless, I can promise you it will be my favourite video of the week and this is my blog so na-na-na-na-boo-boo.

I think we could have just summed this post up with an “I love Lily Allen”, nuff’ said.

"There is some twerking I see in the Lilly Allen Video"

Hoarding With Kate: Concert Posters

Okay, so I know this is a little girly (as my blogs sometimes are) but I have always loved vintage concert posters. I have always wanted to collect them, but my posters always get so damaged when I move that it would break my heart to see them damaged. Also, I tend to collect things (my mother is dealing with my collecting habits from the first 24 years of my life in Nova Scotia right now) and I would hate to start collecting concert posters because it would quickly would become an addiction, like buying vinyl and other small things I have dropped big cash on in the past.

With that being said, I had to just write a quick blurb about how much I love this concert poster and how I would proudly display it on my bedroom wall. This is just amazing, I absolutely love it so I had to repost it up on my blog so that it is forever with me, regardless of moves and flood damage.
