Lisa Nicole on Mountain FM’s Morning Rocks

Today I ended my two-day stint co-hosting Morning Rocks on Mountain FM with John Helm; the lovely Jenny Fines was away celebrating her birthday.

Lisa Nicole joined us on the morning show in anticipation of her big show on Saturday night at the Old Theatre in Castlegar. Fresh off winning two Kootenay Music Awards a couple of weeks ago at the 3rd annual ceremony, Lisa Nicole will be putting on quite the show with opening act Jason Thomas Saturday, May 24th. Get your tickets now!

Click here to check out Lisa Nicole on Facebook.

FYI Lisa Nicole took home two Kootenay Music Awards on Friday May 9, 2014 at the Spiritbar in Nelson. She was voted to have the “Album of the Year” for It Got Ugly and was voted “Best Roots, Country” or Folk Artist as well.

Not in Castlegar this weekend? Lisa Nicole has a bunch of BC and Alberta tour dates coming up this summer! Check them out here.

My Favourite Request, A Good Way to Start 2014

I still consider myself a rookie in this whole radio game. I have worked and interned for a few different companies across the country in stations big and small, never have I ever seen anything like this. This tops my list now of the best requests ever made. I’m not sure how but it greeted me as I came into work around 5am this morning for ‘Morning Rocks’ and it definitely made this early Thursday morning (that feels more like a Monday) MUCH better. Props to the Old Milwaukee trooper who left this for us, you have made my morning a little better and put a smile on this morning grump’s face.
Not the songs I would request and definitely not the beer I would drink (I’m a die hard Keith’s girl, I do have a growing love for Nelson Brewing Co. and Granville Island) but I am a HUGE fan of playing requests.

We’ll get that Zeppelin and Nazareth in for you as soon as possible! For traditional requests feel free to give the studio line a call, 1-877-560-1010… or feel free to keep leaving us messages in a creative fashion around town!

Shake the Tree: Finale on Morning Rocks

We broke a record this morning on Morning Rocks. John and I played 'Shake the Tree' three times!

Here is our final winner for the 2013 tree shaking season, Rick. Rick managed to clear the prize tree out taking home a crazy Christmas haul. A big thanks to all of the prize sponsors and Maglio's for powering our prize tree this year. Until next December our tree is still and pristine (as a Christmas tree should be).

MORNING ROCKS: SHAKE THE TREE WITH GERRY

This morning on Shake the Tree Gerry went for the big win... and our Mountain FM prize tree went for a
fall. Now, no one here is calling Gerry a "Greedy Grinch" (that would involve too many Gs). What will we do with all our extra prizing? Who knows? This girl has a couple of winning ideas though!

Be listening between 6am and 10am to Morning Rocks on Mountain FM (stream it live from the www.mountainfm.net home page) and have 1-877-560-1010 ready in your phone! Caller #9 at the cue to call could win BIG on the TGIF Holiday Edition of Morning Rocks!

Marc Vedo on Morning Rocks

We had a great talk with Marc Vedo about his show here in the Kootenays. He visited the Castlegar Friday night and put on an amazing show with Boy George. We talk small towns, hockey and his love of Canadian steak in this chat from across the pond.

Our Interview With Boy George

Have I mentioned lately how much I love my job?

Well, I love my job.

One amazing Friday while I was filling in on Morning Rocks for Darren McPeake I had the opportunity to interview Boy George with co-host John Helm.

What an amazingly gracious guy. I must say, I was so nervous to talk to the iconic Boy George (even over the phone) but he was amazingly easy to talk to and so humble.

Here is our chat with the one and only Boy George:

Later tonight I will add our chat with Marc Vedo!

Kate Loves Call Ins

I love when people call me during my show.

It really does not happen often enough.

That is one of the beautiful things about being on the morning show, people call in and you get to give them amazing prizes to thank them for listening.

Here are my two favourite winners this week.

Oh and the number is 1-877-560-1010 just in case you forgot!

Hal Johnson Talks Body Break and Amazing Race Canada on Morning Rocks

I have been having so much fun filling in for Darren McPeake on ‘Morning Rocks’ over the last week and a bit. I have loved my time so far, apart from the incredibly early mornings. Seriously, not I’m sure I could handle 3:30am mornings as part of my daily grind. Clearly, John Helm is a pro morning show host. I am still getting used to not lone-wolfing my shows. We have had some pretty incredible interviews in the last week. Boy George, Mark Vedo and the latest was Canadian Fitness Icon Hal Johnson.

If you have spent anytime watching Canadian TV you know exactly who Hal Johnson is, personally I feel like I have grown up with Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod. Their ‘Body Break’ segments were a huge part of my childhood and definitely encouraged me to ‘keep fit and have fun’. Hal and Joanne recently took part in the first season of ‘Amazing Race Canada’ and were fan favourites from the beginning.

Here is our conversation with Hal Johnson, as you can tell we were pretty excited about it.
