How Long Would You Survive A Zombie Apocalypse

I know you have thought about it, how long would you live in a Zombie apocalypse? 

Well my friend Megan Milne at 1035 The Bridge posed that question. My answer as per this pretty intricate little survey was 88 days.

That’s 88 long-ass days. I can’t imagine how much that would suck. I wish I would have lied about how far and how long I can run. Geesh…

I am impressed that the internet thinks I would live that long. I do have a relatively Zombie-proof apartment (I have blogged about those apartment precautions in the past). But, (and this is going to sound sick) I am not sure I would want to live. Maybe if there was a library in my building so I could be entertained with the books I never have time to read.

I have not explored this topic that much in the blog, but you should know that is something I think about frequently on a daily basis. Usually right before I fall asleep.

If you are interested in a hilarious challenge, checkout Season 1 Episode 7 of “Happy Endings”. It is an incredibly funny TV show and that episode centers on a “Zombie Olympics” between friends. Pick a friend and challenge them to a survival test and let me know what happens, this is a social experiment I can totally get behind (and that you should totally film).

Apartment Hunting With Kate

Yup, thats half-zombie Kate.

When picking an apartment I am not an overly picky person, my boyfriend and I recently moved into a new apartment that is perfect.

I have heard other people’s lists of ‘must haves’ like:

-high ceilings

-a bath tub

-hardwood floors

-walk-in/large closets

-quiet neighbors

-pets/no pets

-upstairs/downstairs

-separate entrance

-storage

 -etc.

Okay, so there are not that many options for apartment searching but mine has all the things I need… in fact it is perfect. Yes, it has relatively high ceilings and a bathtub but in my opinion it is one of the most ‘zombie-proof’ apartments in the Kootenays.

Though I am not a fraidy-cat, I do sometimes worry about things like zombies and the end of the world. When I was in Grade 10 I saw the movie ’28 Days Later’ (one of my favourite movies) and for the first time zombies and pandemic became real to me. Well, as real as fictional horrific events can be.

My new apartment is very much ‘zombie-proof’ and even better, its ‘zombie prepped’. It is three stories up, with stair cases that can easily be fully blocked off. It has plenty of space to collect rain water over on the fire escape. The fire escape can easily be blocked to stop anyone from travelling up it and can easily be used in case of an emergency escape. And, there is a fully stocked grocery store 50 feet away… I could even zip-line roof-to-roof.

Yes, my new apartment is everything I want and more… if only it had electricity outlets in the bathroom so I could do my hair……..

Kate's Reading Challenge Book 2: ‘World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War’ by Max Brooks

One of my goals I set for myself on my twenty-fourth birthday was reading a book a week.  I am a little behind, moving twice and finishing school put a damper on my plan. To help motivate myself to finish books on time every week my new plan is to share my latest read with you on my blog.          Book 2: ‘World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War’ by Max Brooks.

My second book in my reading challenge is Max Brook’s ‘World War Z’. I have seen the Brad Pitt blockbuster and I must admit (even though there are references to my home province Nova Scotia in the movie) I MUCH prefer the book.

         ‘World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War’ is a non-stop adventure that takes the reader on a trip around the world, learning the history of a fictional war on the undead. I loved reading every page of this novel, as a radio nerd I imagined the audio art that could be created recording an audio book. I imagine the audio book for this ‘oral history’ is incredible; it is a book that would be incredible to listen to.

         I love the different perspectives presented in this book, other Zombie works do not have the detail or story that is created in ‘World War Z’. Other works leave you asking what is going on in other parts of the world as the story progresses, ‘World War Z’ answers these questions and presents a global picture. 

         This book is perfect for all types of Z-heads, I am a fan of Zombie culture; I watch ‘The Walking Dead’ and some of my favourite movies are zombie-flicks (28 Days Later). The oral account of the Zombie war in the novel is absolutely riveting; it far surpasses the plot of the film.
