Daily Dose of Weird May 13, 2014- Nova Scotia's Proposed Ban on Breakfast Sandwiches and Driving

My home province is the feature of today’s Daily Dose of Weird. This story makes me laugh because it is so ridiculous. I have never been in an accident because I was eating at the wheel, but before I cut out wheat I definitely was guilty of eating delicious breakfast sandwiches and driving. To be honest with you my go to driving food is chicken nuggets, not much safer when you factor in dipping sauce.

I would love to see the stats on how many morning accidents are happening in Nova Scotia. It must be absolutely staggering to warrant this response. Although, I am guessing there has not been more than a handful of occasions when people have been pulled over using electric razors… one of the other problem distractions plaguing Nova Scotian drivers. Check that, it might be one of those “only in Nova Scotia problems” that happen around our province frequently.

On a serious note, shouldn’t the argument be to ban all sandwiches while driving if we are going this far down a crazy path? What about the rush hour double-cheeseburgers? The late night grocery store clubs--- they are all equally distractingly delicious.

Wake Up and Smell the Bacon with Oscar Mayer!

From:
 http://mashable.com/2014/03/05/oscar-mayer-bacon-app/
Waking to the smell of bacon is one of the small joys in life. To me it is right up there with coffee. I’d say it passes coffee as the greatest smell of the morning, why? Well because it is much more dangerous to try to set a timer to cook bacon.

Now that I’ve got you all hot and bothered for morning bacon and swiftly taken away hope with the realization that it is probably not the smartest idea let me lure you back in.

The geniuses at Oscar Mayer have your back. Yes, the meat innovators have come up with a new app that replaces the your phones beeping with the sound of bacon sizzling and (get this even more amazing part) the smell of bacon!

Unfortunately you have to win the luxury of waking up and smelling the bacon everyday and you must be an American citizen to even have a chance at winning the app. You can download the app, but you will have to win the nifty aroma spritzer that plugs into a phones headphone jack.

If you’re a US citizen get over to Oscar Mayer’s website now and take the quiz, you could be waking up to the second best morning treat! Technology!

Let Her Have Cake... for Breakfast

There are things about my childhood that I have a hard time letting go of, especially when it comes to desserts. My mother is incredible, she always has a dessert on display in our kitchen ready and waiting for someone to indulge. Since I have realized how crazy wheat and sugar make me and cut them out of my everyday diet I have had a few lapses and I can tell the moment I wake up that I am in need of a relapse trip to Sweetsville.

Often growing up I would emulate my mother's dietary pattern of eating desserts for breakfast, living by the concept that you have the whole day to work it off. Today I woke up with a cake craving that was out of this world. I drove by all the muffin dealers (McDonald's, Tim Horton's etc.), not giving into to what people like to think of as a healthy alternative for breakfast, let’s be honest most muffins are really just cake. I got to work, sans coffee and sweets. Jones-ed at my desk and then sent out a desperation text to my current life partner Jenny Fines to meet up at Starbucks to sin.

And, I sinned hard. I got my coffee and cake in one beautiful streusel-ed and cinnamon-ed chuck of miracle coffee cake and a less than amazing slice of cheesecake, in my opinion cheesecake should always be served cold. In hind sight I really regret not getting two slices of coffee cake.

I went back to my desk and basically plowed down my monthly dose of wheat and sugar. Shortly after during our weekly programming meeting I feel into an intense sugar coma.

Do you ever wake up craving weird things? Have your parents influenced your diet in a strange way? Do you just love cake?

Let me know your story, kate@mountainfm.net!

Okay, I do secretly love Starbuck's coffee cake (even though their food is garbage).

My Minor Addiction to McDonald's Monopoly Explained

Monopoly is back at McDonald's and I have found myself there pretty much everyday since it launched.
We have our team boards posted up here at the office, everyone's contributing to the team effort (some more than others). When I worked on the front line in high school we would secretly save all the extra tokens and collect them... just in case. Not that we could win legally as a group of employees.

What can I say, I am a little obsessed with McDonald's Monopoly. Have you ever won? Does McD's Monopoly give you the same thrill I get when it starts up? Also, I love the double thrill of it being coupon season at McDonald's and Monopoly... I am so lame.

Let me know if you have any trades you'd like to make ;)

Maple Goodness

As mentioned before, I consider myself a foodie.
Mountain FM recently began running commercials for Tim Horton's new 'Maple Flatbread Panini' and I was instantly intrigued. Two of my favorite things, maple anything and breakfast... only one little problem, I don't eat bread. To celebrate the one-month anniversary of my hiring here at Mountain FM I decided to treat myself with a sweet start to the day.

I gave in to bread and it was SO worth the bread hangover I am facing now. From the moment the counter attendant passed me the sandwich my car was enveloped with the sweet, sweet smell of maple. I almost pulled over to eat it because it was nearly impossible to make it to the station with the tempting smell of maple delicious-ness.  I do think the sandwich would have been better with the hickory smoked ham I asked for, but the sausage was okay too. The smell alone was worth the money, if you like maple you have got to go to Tim Horton's and try it out.
