The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: July 11- DO IT FOR DENMARK!

I kind of lost it a little bit talking about this live on-air so here is my voice-tracked version of the "Daily Dose of Weird" for July 11, 2014.

Why did I lose it? Well I glanced over at the monitor screen on my show-prep computer and the elderly couple from the commercial was staring at me frozen in time. I felt as if I had just done something naughty myself because their glare was so intimidating.

The stats here are crazy; I can't believe that Denmark knows these weird figures about their citizen’s sex lives! For the full effect of this weird news segment you really need to watch the entire "Do It For Denmark" ad in the Youtube video posted below.

The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: July 09- Blame It On Jagger?

Today's Daily Dose of Weird is absurd, but Mick Jagger does have a horrible track record with supporting losing teams at the FIFA World Cup and other football (soccer) matches. People are blaming him for Brazil's crushing defeat yesterday because he was at the match cheering on host team Brazil. Click here for the full read about why Mick should not be betting on football outcomes.

Also, I doubt he will be cheering for Germany on Sunday so that is a plus. Go Germany!

The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: July 08- The Potato Salad Kickstarter Campaign

I had been avoiding talking about this very hot topic because I think it is ridiculous. I skipped it yesterday but today I had a wild BBQ craving and all I could think about was chowing down. I started thinking about the one food item I would pay crazy money to eat and it eventually led me to today’s Daily Dose of Weird.

Zack Danger Brown launched his Kickstarter Campaign for $10 for Potato Salad and as of 4:48pm on August 8, 2014 he has raised well over $45,000; all thanks to the generous contributions of over 4,300 people.

This is absolutely crazy. I will be honest with you; I have never had potato salad. I prefer to focus on the meatier dishes on the menu, but it sounds like Zack has the same love for potato salad that I have for ribs. Ribs are my favourite dish, but out of respect for precious rib meat I do not attempt to make them because I could never make the magic with them that they deserve. I think the only food Kickstarter I could ever contribute to would have to be for ribs. I love ribs.

For the latest update on Zack’s campaign to make some potato salad for the first time click here. I could spend lots of time and energy updating this page but I already feel I have put too much effort into this silly topic.

The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: July 04, 2014- The 2014 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Competitive eating is something I should have gotten into at a young age. Maybe if I had of trained a little as a competitive eater I would not be the world’s slowest eater. Yes, that is a title I could hold. I eat unbearably slow.  If we ever dine together and I order a salad expect to be at the table for a while, I could be in contention for the world’s slowest person who likes to consume salads.

Today’s Daily Dose of Weird talks about a subject that is pretty much the opposite of that, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut and his big win today at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. He threw back 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

“Jaws” thought it would be the perfect time to pop the question, here is a special moment that happened before the big contest. why not eh?

July 03, 2014- The Woman Only Eating Pet Food For 30 Days

This is crazy, gross and something I would never do. Not even a nibble!

This lady’s love for pet and human nutrition has me beat! I love animals, pets and most of all food but not enough to follow through with a crazy plan like this! After fumbling around her pet food store and starting to crave some of the pet food on her selves she started consuming it and has not stopped! She will be eating pet food for 30 days straight to raise awareness for better human and pet nutrition.

Better her than me!

The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: July 02, 2014- "My Bed" Sells at Auction for 4 Million Dollars!

In all it's glory...
I love art. But, today’s Daily Dose of Weird feature proves that I don’t always appreciate it. After Tracey Emin’s “My Bed” soft at auction yesterday in London for double the guide price (over $4,000,000) I was left scratching my head wondering if I could do better. To be honest with you, I don’t consider any bed worth that much especially a sad lonely lady bed like this one.

I would not pay four million dollars for Mick Jagger’s bed and we all know that bed would have had a happy life. I originally had typed a long-ass rant here about beds that I would not buy that would/should be worth a substantial amount more than this lady’s shrine to being lonely and sad. I gave up on that when I realized that I think beds are gross and that I never, ever want own a used bed from a celebrity or any other questionable person. A very nice lady gave me the bed I own right now, but I doubt I will ever have a used bed again after thinking about it right now…

Anyway, my bed is rather happy looking. It has memory foam floating over it that is a size too small and has a nice pick and orange comforter set with an old 90s rain forest duvet for cuddling. My crappy Walmart bedding is stain-free and lucky for me free from trash. You can purchase my happy bed for $200 obo.
I am only half kidding here. Seriously, buy my bed. I’m going to need the memory foam for my futon though so it stays. Also, I don’t believe in recycling cheap bedding so I will be throwing that out.

The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: June 20, 2014- Sex At The World Cup

It has been a while since I shared a “Daily Dose of Weird” radio break. With all the changes things have been really busy! Today’s topic is red hot, the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. By all accounts the 2014 World Cup is the sexiest tournament ever (not really sure why that matters but it has been constantly brought up). Yesterday I discussed the HUGE demand for the unofficial World Cup condom on sale exclusively in Brazil, today the topic was about the sexual activity the players are allowed (or not allowed) to partake in.

For the full read about the Brazilian unofficial/official World Cup condoms from makers (ironically named) Prudence click here.

Like I say in my radio break I think it is way more ridiculous to have a grey area in your team’s sexual policy for World Cup. Yes or no, one or the other; I think the grey area will just get people in trouble and it is confusing. Also, Brazil we get it you are not normally vanilla in-bed but to have to say no acrobatic sex, is that necessary?  What does that even mean? Also, who is enforcing these “rules” and who would be a big enough jerk to taddle? For Time’s look at what teams can take part in bedroom behavior and to what extent click here.

Daily Dose of Weird May 13, 2014- Nova Scotia's Proposed Ban on Breakfast Sandwiches and Driving

My home province is the feature of today’s Daily Dose of Weird. This story makes me laugh because it is so ridiculous. I have never been in an accident because I was eating at the wheel, but before I cut out wheat I definitely was guilty of eating delicious breakfast sandwiches and driving. To be honest with you my go to driving food is chicken nuggets, not much safer when you factor in dipping sauce.

I would love to see the stats on how many morning accidents are happening in Nova Scotia. It must be absolutely staggering to warrant this response. Although, I am guessing there has not been more than a handful of occasions when people have been pulled over using electric razors… one of the other problem distractions plaguing Nova Scotian drivers. Check that, it might be one of those “only in Nova Scotia problems” that happen around our province frequently.

On a serious note, shouldn’t the argument be to ban all sandwiches while driving if we are going this far down a crazy path? What about the rush hour double-cheeseburgers? The late night grocery store clubs--- they are all equally distractingly delicious.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird May 13, 2014- The Post-It Note Divorce

There are lots of weird divorce stories out there; this one takes the cake for me. After fifteen years of communication with post-it notes this couple is ending their marriage.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird May 08, 2014- A Jurassic Baseball Pitch

Being a 90s kid I have a soft spot for dinosaurs.

It seems like the early 90s and dinosaurs go hand-in-hand. From Jurassic Park and all the crappy side merchandise that came out trying to make an easy buck around the dino-craze, to being in elementary school and learning about dinosaurs while they were hot and trendy; to me the 90s scream dinosaurs and always get my attention.  I’m not even going to get into Land Before Time…

Maybe this was not the case to people who were fully-grown during the 90s, but I’m betting I’m not the only kid who remembers the early 90s this way.
Anyways the other day my Daily Dose of Weird focused on the San Diego Padres hosting the Kansas City Royals at Petco Park. This game had a very unique ceremonial first pitch that you can catch here.

Yes, that is a baby tyrannosaurus and it is huge.  The smart stunt was planned to promote the Walking With Dinosaurs live arena show that is touring North America. Yes, as a child of the 90s I am weirdly intrigued by dinosaurs so I have seen the movie version of  Walking With Dinosaurs.

The aptly named “Baby-T” did a damn good job tossing out the first pitch from its mouth but it did not help the home team win. The Padres fell 8-0 to the Royals.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird May 07, 2014- Sticking Around After A Robbery

I will never have the balls to rob a place. I guess I will never have balls period, so maybe that phrase is not quite accurate.

This story baffles me. Not only because the crocks had the audacity to hold up a gas station, but because they were cocky enough to lengthen their stay after firing a gun at the clerk. They told him to hang out in the bathroom for a few hours so they could set-up shop and offer a discount to anyone pumping gas and paying in cash. Go big or go home right? Apparently you might as well break some more laws while you are committing a major felony.

I would totally think something was fishy if this deal was offered to me in the middle of the night at a gas station. Unfortunately there is no such thing as Happy Hour at the gas bar. Generally if anyone approaches me after dark at a gas station I assume something horrible is going to happen. Have you ever heard the story about a girl ignoring a man trying to tell her that someone was in the backseat of her car hiding --- only to be killed a short time later because she did not talk to the stranger at the gas station? That story alone is why I will never drive anything larger than a compact car and why 95% of my gas purchases are made in daylight.
Parents, tell your kids that story. Not only will they lock the doors to their car all the time, they will have a big ole’ fear of driving alone at night.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird May 05, 2014- Topless Reading Club Aims To Make Reading Sexy

Let’s get weird and read together… topless. This Daily Dose of Weird talks about a reading club like no other in New York City (where else right?) where members are attempting to “make reading sexy” by reading topless.

Meh. I’ll continue to read with my top on… I’m not even sure how to have gender equality for this; it is just not the same for topless guys. Bottomless reading could be a little more interesting… until 50 Shades of Grey comes up on the reading list.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 29, 2014- The Baby Monitor Straight Out of a Horror Movie

Better late than never!

April 29th we explored something that creeps me out regardless. Baby monitors, they freak me out. I am terrified of listening to white noise, I always think I hear something and then go into uber paranoia.  My family’s homes were generally so small that no baby monitor was needed. Only my evil aunt (by marriage) was sadistic enough to let a baby cry, her kids grew up in a haunted old house by the sea so I guess it was the only way she could deal with babies being spooked all the time.

Yeah, I went there. She’s called me some not so nice names in the past so I’m all right with saying her house was haunted and she let babies cry without any concern. I bet you could have guessed this but she never asked me to babysit. I consider us even.

Anyways, the only thing scarier than white noise is crazy people. So naturally this story makes me want to stop using Wi-Fi like any rational adult.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 28, 2014- Atari's E.T. Dumpsite Found

I had only ever heard rumors about this!

Over the weekend (Saturday) search parties working on a video game documentary found the legendary dumpsite of Atari’s ‘E.T. the Extra Terrestrial’ video game. This Atari game cartridge is almost mythical because as the story goes the video game is so bad that it’s makers wanted to wipe it from history.

Hundreds of thousands of copies of the E. video game were unearthed over the weekend (April 26, 2014) in New Mexico’s desert. It’s an odd story and I am very happy it is true. It is kind of like a modern day treasure hunt!  I am happy I was not there in the desert, waiting to dig up and play the game; but I am happy the mystery is somewhat solved.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 25, 2014- The Most Canadian Day At School Ever

"Ohhhh heeeeey"
Sorry, like I said in my previous post I got a little behind a t the end of last week with posts. Here is Friday’s Daily Dose of Weird about a young female moose that was on the loose outside an Orillia, Ontario school last week. This young lady moose was sick of the wild and wanted to bring out here inner child by visiting an elementary school sending it into lock-down mode.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 24, 2014 - The Great Axe Indy Thief of 2014

Sorry about the delay and the little break. I did not like Wednesday’s Weird News item, “Palcohol” so I took the day off from posting.

After a busy weekend I am back to writing and getting ready for a half-week at work. So the first of my two posts today is about “The Great Axe Indy Thief of 2014”.  If you are visiting Indiana and see a crap load of cheap (well cheaper) Axe body wash be wary... I can’t imagine that anyone would ever keep this much Axe; it is beyond a lifetime supply.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 1&, 2014 - How to Earn a Free Subscription to Hustler Magazine

It really is the little things in life that can put a smile on your face. I think I told everyone I ran into about this story after I read about it. In fact, I was talking about it at the grocery store and one of the workers told me she had heard about it the radio. Double Happiness is not just an amazing Chinese restaurant in Trail, BC... it was how I felt April 17th.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 15, 2014 - Vancouver's First Strip Spelling Bee

I kind of went off the rails yesterday with the prom blog. So today will be short and sweet. Vancouver’s first Strip Spelling Bee is being held as I type this blog. It was the subject of today’s weird news. This is a “body positive” event…  good thing! My Canadian wintered body would need to be layered in a snowsuit to be taking part in this event. Why? I am admittedly not the strongest speller. Also, I have the attention span of a cricket so shirts would have to come off every minute to keep my attention. I’m not great with losing either…

Anyways, here you have it. Vancouver’s first Strip Spelling Bee is April 15, 2014’s Daily Dose of Weird.
