Weird Things Happen To Me: Before I Die...

Weird things happen to me ALL THE TIME.

Honestly, it is kind of nice to have strange occurrences brighten up my day to day routine. I was just perusing one of my favourite websites that I use daily at work “Morgue File” and found an unexpected delight (as my boss would call it). I’m not sure if this photo was taken in Nelson, BC where I stumbled upon the “Before I Die...” wall or if my message was is so unique and strange that it stayed on the wall for an extended period of time, either way it hit me in the face today.
As I flipped through pages of photos of “art” I found the wonderful wall that had people lining up in Nelson to publicly share their goals and life ambitions with my message intact. Yes, my small hands have not only impacted someone’s view of an amazing public art exhibit but they have also contributed in a tiny way to one of my favourite sites.
Strange, eh?

My goal on the wall that day was very ambitious. I think I am better qualified to work towards it today than I was that day, but I am moving further away from working in the industry my dream pertained too... I’m not sure if I should be encouraged or discouraged seeing this photo about a year-and-a-half after expressing my dreams. I’m not sure if I was drunk with ambition or just a little buzzed... I know one thing is for sure, I miss that beautiful sun shine! Summer cannot come fast enough!

I’m not going to tell you my chalked-in goal, I’ll let you guess.

Now it is your turn, finish this sentence: Before I die I want to....

July 03, 2014- The Woman Only Eating Pet Food For 30 Days

This is crazy, gross and something I would never do. Not even a nibble!

This lady’s love for pet and human nutrition has me beat! I love animals, pets and most of all food but not enough to follow through with a crazy plan like this! After fumbling around her pet food store and starting to crave some of the pet food on her selves she started consuming it and has not stopped! She will be eating pet food for 30 days straight to raise awareness for better human and pet nutrition.

Better her than me!

The Goat's Daily Dose of Weird: June 20, 2014- Sex At The World Cup

It has been a while since I shared a “Daily Dose of Weird” radio break. With all the changes things have been really busy! Today’s topic is red hot, the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. By all accounts the 2014 World Cup is the sexiest tournament ever (not really sure why that matters but it has been constantly brought up). Yesterday I discussed the HUGE demand for the unofficial World Cup condom on sale exclusively in Brazil, today the topic was about the sexual activity the players are allowed (or not allowed) to partake in.

For the full read about the Brazilian unofficial/official World Cup condoms from makers (ironically named) Prudence click here.

Like I say in my radio break I think it is way more ridiculous to have a grey area in your team’s sexual policy for World Cup. Yes or no, one or the other; I think the grey area will just get people in trouble and it is confusing. Also, Brazil we get it you are not normally vanilla in-bed but to have to say no acrobatic sex, is that necessary?  What does that even mean? Also, who is enforcing these “rules” and who would be a big enough jerk to taddle? For Time’s look at what teams can take part in bedroom behavior and to what extent click here.

Just A Few of Longer Radio Breaks

It has been a while since I uploaded some show audio outside of my daily weird news update. Not that these breaks are any less weird... here are a few from late May/early June 2014.

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird May 06, 2014- Would You Live In A Rare UFO Style House?

I love weird houses.

I would much rather live in a strange house than a creepy old house. I was a little hostile towards haunted old houses a couple of posts ago with the story about some loser hacking into a family’s Wifi and scaring the crap out of a poor baby (and the baby’s parents). Today I'm lightening up a bit...

I think I would be 100% okay with living in the Futuro Home. It is kind of like a space-age tree house.
If you are from the East Coast of Canada and had any sort of childhood you visited Rainbow Valley. At one point during my younger days I compared it to Disneyland. I clearly had not been to Disneyland. Regardless of where Rainbow Valley sat on the world class amusement park spectrum, I was a huge fan. I was eight and wanted to live on Prince Edward Island.

The Futuro Home reminds me of Rainbow Valley; which as you can probably guess by the promotion picture has closed.

It could be all yours for under $30,000. For the full read click here…

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 21, 2014 - Ypsilanti's Most Wanted

Today's Daily Dose of Weird takes us to Ypsilanti, Michigan where a horrible person is violating Prospect Park. Not much to say here other than this is the work of a vile human being... #YPSIPOOPER

Mountain Middays - Daily Dose of Weird April 15, 2014 - Vancouver's First Strip Spelling Bee

I kind of went off the rails yesterday with the prom blog. So today will be short and sweet. Vancouver’s first Strip Spelling Bee is being held as I type this blog. It was the subject of today’s weird news. This is a “body positive” event…  good thing! My Canadian wintered body would need to be layered in a snowsuit to be taking part in this event. Why? I am admittedly not the strongest speller. Also, I have the attention span of a cricket so shirts would have to come off every minute to keep my attention. I’m not great with losing either…

Anyways, here you have it. Vancouver’s first Strip Spelling Bee is April 15, 2014’s Daily Dose of Weird.

Daily Dose of Weird - April 11, 2014 - Man Who Sues His Mother's Nursing Home Over Strippers

I have never seen a strip show. I think I will leave it on the bucket list so that it can anger my future children because I will be spending my old-age money by putting loonies in a pair of SAXX 37.0. Good thing I don't plan on having children, everybody wins! Well, it is mainly just the Strippers and I winning but two out of three isn't bad right?

If I do ever have children I hope they aren't little jerks like this guy. Seriously, when I am 85 let me do what I want. Unless there are serious crimes going on in the photos found showing the elderly lady and the strippers than let it be and just be happy to have a mum!

It could always be worse... like the senior's home in Happy Gilmore! Click here for the full story.

Daily Dose of Weird - April 10, 2014 - Alberta Dentist Wants To Clone John Lennon After Purchasing Tooth For $33,000

This story is bonkers!

I really do hope this is one big promotional move rather than a legit plan. Apparently John Lennon’s tooth and legacy mixed with too much money make a crazy freaking plan.

I am filing this under crazy and leaving it there. I hope this does not work. I am a purest and Lennon 2.0 is not something I think ever needs to happen. Unfortunately some things are better left in the past and I think this average dentist is robbing 15-minutes of fame from the extraordinary John Lennon.

This post is a little angry compared to others. I really don't feel comfortable where this type of thing is going and people like this looking to be a little famous. Tomorrow I'll keep it cutsie.

Daily Dose of Weird - April 09, 2014 - Spiders Hooked on the Smell of Gas

Today’s Daily Dose of Weird is pretty freakin’ creepy.  It combines two of my least favourite things spiders (well any creepy crawly) and car troubles.  There are many more questions that need answering in this story for me.Like:
-Is it just Mazdas? Hopefully these yellow sac spiders are allergic to Fords.
-Do those hell-bent spiders meet their maker via incineration, do they explode or are they invincible?
-How far north can these spiders survive? If I have learned anything from World War Z and Walking Dead it is that living as far north as bearable means a better chance of surviving a zombie apocalypse. I am applying the same logic here.

Creepy.

Daily Dose of Weird - April 08, 2014 - Crazy Lady Helps Herself At McDonald's

I love weird news. So now I am going to bring you your daily dose of crazy and weird on Mountain Middays.

Today’s story was an easy one. Crazy and fast-food combined into one incredibly weird package.

As a person who has worked in the quick food service industry a lot, I can totally picture how this happened. I can envision it in my head as clear as day. Why? Well I have dealt with a lot of crazy moments behind the counter. It is kind of like a team building exercise sometimes to deal with out of the ordinary situations like this one where a topless woman found herself behind the counter of a Florida McDonald’s and self-served herself some soft-serve (among other things). All while being captured on security cameras.

Now this out-crazies anything I have ever dealt with by a mile… at least. But, just think of the staff of teenagers who will remember this for the rest of their lives. Every time they see each other they will be like, “Remember that Monday night a lady in a thong decided to take over and trash McDonalds? I was there!”

Yes, this lady did a number on the McDonald’s trashing camp as she helped herself to ice cream and fries.
Who hasn't wanted to go behind the counter and fill their own order out of frustration, this lady was just taking it to the next level. Reminding me of one of my all-time favorite characters and this great moment…

Horoscopes, Moons and Madness

I am not one to look to any outside sources for influences on my life. I like to be in control (yes, I am a massive control freak) and with it the entire time. I like to think that I am the guiding force in my life and what star I just happen to be (I am an Aries by the way) is irrelevant.

With all that empowered crap being said, my horoscope has been frighteningly accurate lately, paired with the full moon and eclipse things have been a little strange. Making me more than a little bit crazy, or maybe just crazier… I will not lie to you lovely blog readers; I was a little bit of a wreck Saturday night. Blame it on the moon right?

I want to know what you think; does the moon affect you? My mother always warned me that people always do crazy things during full moons and I read a few article backing her up. Afternoon Ride host Jenny Fines is a believer too.

I can genuinely say that I have not been myself over the past few days, I am a massive fan of alone time and I can’t seem to be around people enough. I got the sudden urge to need to party, instead of watch Saturday Night Live on Saturday night. I am aching with homesickness, which just never happens. I have been reading my horoscopes, again another thing that I just don’t do and I even paid money (out my own pocket) to eat crappy Starbucks food. That was the big one.

Yes, my friends, something was off with me. Hopefully it is just the moon; rumor has it those things will be back to normal on November 3rd after the solar eclipse.

Until then, let’s just get weird together to Muse.

#TuneTuesday: August 27, 2013

Unfortunately we will never share #MusicMonday because I work Tuesday to Saturday. So I will be hooking you up with my favorite music cuts on what I am calling #TuneTuesday. I would love it if you called it that too, lets make it a thing)

I am going to always try to pick one break out hit, a big band that everyone has heard from before and then another song I love from a Canadian band that I think deserves a shout out and attention for their incredible work. This week we have tunes form a band that hopes their song won’t go mainstream and may complain about playing it live if it does and another great collaboration from two amazing Maritimers.

1. MGMT- Your Life Is a Lie

This video really has it all. Seriously, I have watched it about a dozen times and all of the individual elements still are blowing my mind. I must say the talking dolphin, baby in the sky with a balloon and the trophy wife are my favourite parts. This video will mess with your mind a little bit; especially the old man eating a banana on beat towards the end, why is a simple banana is making him so happy? Most people in the video seem really happy that their life is a lie, maybe their lives are not lies and they are just seriously enjoying telling all of us that our lives are lies (light bulb moment). This is a pretty cool video (in my opinion), even though it is the type of video that makes you wonder what drugs the director was on when it was strung together. The song is pretty catchy too; I hummed it all day after my first viewing. Hopefully it only gets mildly popular so that MGMT can still enjoy it themselves… being mainstream is so not cool, right?

2. David Myles- How’d I Ever Think I Loved You

I have been waiting on this one; I wasn’t sure it really fits our rock format but I think it has stood the test of time and deserves a mention. Watch it for David Myles smooth dance moves alone. ‘How’d I Ever Think I Loved You’ is so catchy; David Myles and Classified make a great team. I saw them perform at an ECMA after party this spring and they are brilliant live too. This video will take you back to your first crush in grade school, it is so fun. David Myles reminds me of that substitute teacher you would have whenever your teacher was sick, the type of sub you would totally mess with (like switching instruments in band class) you know the type of sub that tries to teach a class instead of showing the assigned movie. His disguises through the video are priceless as well. Not only is this a great video, I think it is a great breakup song for those who have parted on bad terms. It is not sad and depressing, it is addictive to the ears and I am sure you will find yourself singing it later today!
